breathalyse other, fine of over-the-limit learner

DRIVING instructors are calling on VicRoads to breathalyse people before they take a driving test.(墨尔本驾照翻译编辑)

Watsonia’s Hi-Way Driving School owner Karen Tait, an instructor for more than 20 years, told the Diamond Valley Leader drug and alcohol checks for people taking a learners, probationary or full licence test would make the road safer for everyone.

“We ask kids if they drank the night before, particularly if it’s a day after their 18th, but you can never be 100 per cent sure without the evidence of a test,” Ms Tait said.

“VicRoads could easily have a breathalysing system, like the police, before they hop in the car with a VicRoads tester.”

The calls follow an incident where an 18-year-old learner driver blew .057 when he was pulled over by police during a licence test, with a VicRoads tester inside the vehicle, on McKimmies Rd in Bundoora on October 31. The driver was issued a $466 on-the-spot fine and disqualified from driving for 6 months.

Nillumbik Inspector Simon Rainey said Victoria Police supported initiatives to reduce drink-driving and road trauma, especially when dealing with inexperienced and vulnerable road users.

But Crossroads Driving School’s Michael Spoor, who has 30 years driving experience, said VicRoads should not be responsible for conducting drug and alcohol tests on people applying for a license.(墨尔本驾照翻译编辑)

“It’s up to the parents more than anything else … to make sure they are level-headed and using their brains,” Mr Spoor said.

“If one person is stupid enough to do that, it reflects on that person, rather than the system.”(墨尔本驾照翻译编辑)

VicRoads acting executive director of registration and licensing Helen Lindner said a test would be rescheduled if a driver was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.(墨尔本驾照翻译编辑)

“VicRoads takes drink-driving very seriously as we want all Victorians to be safe on our roads,” Ms Lindner said.

VicRoads is not considering the introduction of compulsory alcohol and drug test before a licence test.

With sights set on developing fully autonomous driving technology, MIT spinoff startup Optimus Ride has raised $5.25 million in seed funding, led by NextView Ventures and FirstMark Capital. With the funding, Boston-based Optimus Ride hopes to provide something unique to the self-driving technology market, powered by a team with over 30 years of collective experience in robotics, on-demand transportation, electric vehicles and more.

“We have been working on new transportation systems that are based on new self-driving vehicle technologies, and we’ve been working on this for a few months already,” Optimus Ride co-founder, President, and Chief Scientist Sertac Karaman told me in an interview. “We have people on the team who have been working on autonomous vehicles for almost a decade.”

Karaman isn’t saying much about the specifics of what Optimus Ride is working on (spoiler alert: it isn’t, as the name might suggest, a giant sentient robot related to the leader of the Autobots), but he repeatedly points to the team’s talent as an indicator of what it can accomplish.(墨尔本驾照翻译,驾照翻译中心编辑)

CEO Ryan Chin is an MIT PhD who co-invented the MIT CityCar, for instance, a lightweight all-electric vehicle designed specifically for urban use. CTO Albert Huang, another MIT PhD, worked at Google[x] as lead perception engineer, as well as at ReThink Robotics. CMO Jenny Larios Berlin has worked at Zipcar, where Karaman says she helped create the strategic vision for a car-sharing network that can function at scale. MIT media lab alum Ramiro Almeida is also a co-founder, having previously helped develop the first subway line in Quito, Ecuador.(墨尔本驾照翻译,驾照翻译中心编辑)

Leave a 3 or 4 second gap between you and the vehicle in front of you

Spyder first drive review 2017 Audi R8

Given the expense can be similar to buying a decent family home, you’d think not many people go shopping for an exotic, high-performance supercar in convertible form. Those who do, however, might be surprised by the amount of choice available.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a Ferrari 488 Spider, Porsche 911 Turbo, Lamborghini Huracan Spyder or an Aston Martin V12 Vantage, there’s an awful lot of quite sexy metal out there and presumably just as many dollars giving the option of al fresco motoring.

Self-driving car on the road in Melbourne-no more driver license

Self-driving car on the road in Melbourne-no more driver license

Adding a local flavour to the US-built Tesla Model S electric sedan, Bosch Australia engineers have been testing what the Victorian government claims is the nation’s first locally-developed autonomous vehicle.

In a collaboration with VicRoads, the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and the Victorian state government, Bosch engineers in Clayton, Victoria have deployed the self-driving car as part of an intelligence-gathering project.

The result will set the foundations for the regulations and infrastructure necessary to allow autonomous cars to function effectively in Australia, and could influence the use of new signs, traffic signals and other infrastructure.

Maybe oneday we do not need driver licenseAll Tesla Cars Will Now Come With Self-Driving Technology

Maybe oneday we do not need driver license. It might not be ‘flying cars’, but the future of automobiles just got a whole lot more interesting. Tesla has announced that every car it manufacturers — including the entry-level Model 3 — will come equipped with full self-driving features. What a time to be alive.

Earlier today, Tesla CEO Elon Musk made the surprise announcement that all cars being built by Tesla will include full self-driving features. This is a pretty big deal. Unlike the ‘autopilot’ technology in Tesla’s Model S and Model X, the new hardware will enable full self-driving autonomy — this means the car will be able to get from A to B entirely unassisted by the human driver. (Or ‘passenger’, as the case may be.)

ACCC will examine fuel efficiency claims as part of its study

The ACCCwill examine fuel efficiency claims as part of its study for car industry

The ACCC is set to examine a series of issues, and has asked new car drivers to contribute to research by sharing their experiences with the government body. jiazhaofanyi edited
The study is set to examine four areas of concern:

The first surrounds the effectiveness of customer guarantees or warranties, and how problems are rectified by new cars and dealers. Next on the list are claims made by carmakers surrounding the efficiency, economy and performance of models, and whether those numbers stack up in the real world.

Australian Automotive Association chief executive Michael Bradley welcomed the examination of fuel figures.

“The Australian Government currently performs no independent or real-world testing of vehicle manufacturer claims when it comes to the emissions and fuel usage of new cars sold in Australia,” he says.
